Overview
The Miner is the twelfth Elixir troop unlocked in the Barracks at Town Hall 10, and the only ground unit that travels underground. This revolutionary troop burrows beneath the ground upon deployment, becoming invulnerable to all defenses and traps while tunneling to its target. After 3 seconds underground, Miners surface to attack with 140 DPS and 1,150 HP at max level, then immediately burrow again after each attack. This unique mechanic allows Miners to bypass walls, Spring Traps, Giant Bombs, and even Eagle Artillery targeting entirely.
Miners revolutionized 3-star strategies by introducing “surgical deployment” tactics where precise timing and positioning create unstoppable pushes through heavily fortified bases. They’re central to Mass Miner (30-35 Miners with Queen Charge), Hybrid (Hog Rider + Miner), and Miner cleanup roles in TH10-14 attacks. Their 6 housing space efficiency allows for flexible army compositions, and their ability to ignore walls makes them immune to compartmentalization strategies. However, Miners have weaknesses: low HP makes them vulnerable to Wizard Towers and multi-target Infernos once surfaced, Poison Spells devastate them when clustered, and poor AI targeting causes them to attack random buildings instead of prioritizing defenses.

Key Attributes: Miners have a movement speed of 20 (fast when underground), attack speed of 1.2 seconds, attack range of 0.5 tiles (melee), and travel underground for 3 seconds before surfacing. They occupy 6 housing space and bypass all ground obstacles while burrowing. Special Ability: Invulnerable to all damage while underground.
โ๏ธ Attack Strategies
Mass Miner (Queen Charge)
Send Archer Queen with Healers to eliminate 1-2 Inferno Towers or Eagle Artillery. Once pathing is clear, deploy 30-35 Miners in waves toward Town Hall. Use Heal Spells on Wizard Tower zones and Rage in core. Dominates TH10-12.
Hybrid (Hog + Miner)
Deploy Hog Riders to trigger Giant Bombs and clear outer defenses. Once Hogs are eliminated or enter core, flood Miners toward Town Hall. Miners clean up remaining defenses while ignoring triggered traps. Most consistent TH11-13 3-star strategy.
Surgical Miner Deployment
Deploy 3-5 Miners per building cluster, timing each deployment 1 second apart. Miners surface simultaneously inside different compartments, overwhelming defenses with multi-angle attacks. Requires precise timing but guarantees core penetration.
Miner Cleanup Role
After primary army (LaLoon, E-Drag, etc.) destroys 70-80%, deploy 10-15 Miners to clean up remaining buildings. Miners burrow directly to trash buildings, securing 3-star faster than any other cleanup troop.
Royal Champion Funnel
Deploy Royal Champion with 6-8 Miners supporting her. Miners tank defenses while Champion eliminates high-HP buildings (Eagle, Scattershot, Inferno). Heal Spells sustain the push. Excellent TH13+ strategy for single-Inferno bases.
Poison Dodge Technique
When defending Poison Spell drops on Miners, deploy them in spread waves (5+ tiles apart). Miners outside Poison radius continue burrowing while affected Miners tank the DoT, minimizing casualties.
๐ก๏ธ Defense Tips
Multi-Target Inferno Towers
Set Inferno Towers to multi-target mode to shred Miner swarms. A maxed multi-target Inferno eliminates 8-10 Miners in 5 seconds. Position Infernos inside core compartments where Miners typically surface.
Wizard Tower Clustering
Position Wizard Towers to overlap coverage zones around Town Hall. When Miners surface in groups, multiple Wizard Towers deal devastating splash damage, eliminating 5-6 Miners per volley.
Poison Spell Defense
Place Poison Spells in Clan Castle on defense. When Miners surface near Town Hall, activate Poison to slow and damage them. Miners die 50% faster under Poison, collapsing Mass Miner attacks before they reach Town Hall.
Compartmentalization Still Helps
While Miners ignore walls, deep compartments increase their travel time underground. Each extra compartment adds 3+ seconds of exposure to defenses once surfaced, allowing more DPS before they reach Town Hall.
๐ฏ Advanced Tips
Underground Invulnerability
Miners are 100% invulnerable while underground (3 seconds after deployment). No defense, trap, or spell can damage them during this phase. Use this to bypass Spring Traps, Giant Bombs, and even Eagle Artillery volleys completely.
AI Targeting Randomness
Miners target the nearest building upon surfacing, regardless of strategic value. They’ll attack Barracks or Collectors instead of Town Hall. Use Siege Machines or precise deployment angles to direct their pathing toward high-value targets.
Heal Spell Timing
Drop Heal Spells 0.5 seconds BEFORE Miners surface in Wizard Tower zones. This ensures healing activates the instant they take damage, maximizing survivability. Delayed Heals result in 30-40% more Miner casualties.
Super Miner Viability
Super Miners (Level 5+, 25k DE boost) burrow faster and have more HP but cost 12 housing space. Only worth using for trophy pushing where you need fewer, tankier units. Mass Miner strategies prefer regular Miners for number advantage.
Training Cost Efficiency
Miners cost 12,000 Elixir at max level (6 housing space). A 35-Miner army costs 420k Elixir. Expensive but justified for wars where their wall-ignoring mechanics and cleanup efficiency provide unmatched 3-star consistency.
