Rebuilding Mistria is the backbone of Fields of Mistria's story. Beyond farming and relationships, you're steadily repairing the town through a chain of Story Quests — also called Town Repair quests — each of which unlocks new areas, buildings, and features. This guide lists every town upgrade in order, its requirements, and what it unlocks. New here? Start with our Beginner's Guide and Town Renown guide.

How Town Upgrades Work

There are two types of Story Quest in Fields of Mistria: sequential Story Quests (the main town-repair chain) and side Story Quests (like skill tutorials). This guide focuses on the sequential town repairs that must be done in order to advance the story and rebuild Mistria.

??? How to Progress Town Upgrades

1

Follow the story quests in order

Town repairs are sequential. Complete each to unlock the next, starting from the Museum and Eastern Road Bridge.

2

Gather the materials

Each repair needs materials — usually wood, stone, sap or ingots — dropped in a donation box or shipping bin.

3

Meet the renown requirement

Later upgrades need a minimum Town Rank (e.g. Renown 55 for the Stone Refinery). Raise your rank to unlock them.

4

Talk to the quest giver

Most begin with Adeline in the Manor or at the General Store. Follow the objective and deliver the materials.

?? Tip: Always keep a stock of Wood, Stone and Sap in a chest. Nearly every town repair asks for them, and having them ready means you can complete each upgrade the moment it unlocks instead of waiting days to gather.

All Town Upgrades in Order

Completing town repair story quests to rebuild Mistria in Fields of Mistria

Each town repair is given by Adeline and unlocks a new part of the town or map.

Here is the full sequence of town-repair Story Quests as of the February 2026 (v0.15.0) update. Early quests teach the game's systems; later ones are gated behind Renown levels.

Key Upgrades Explained

Reopening the Mines (Town Rank 10)

The most important early unlock. Reaching Town Rank 10 lets you reopen the Mines, which gate your access to ore, gems, artifacts, and the tool upgrades that make everything else easier.

Repair the General Store

This unlocks the full seasonal seed catalogue, dramatically expanding your farming options. Until it's done, you're stuck with a small handful of starter seeds.

Upgrade Hayden's Barn

A major boon for ranchers — it opens up a much greater variety of animals and animal products. Until you complete it, you only have access to the most basic animals. Pairs with our ranching guide.

The Stone Refinery (Renown 55)

Unlocks once you've completed "Upgrade the Inn" and reached Town Renown level 55. Adeline asks you to meet her at the Mines in the Narrows; deliver the materials (mostly Wood and Stone, plus additional Sap in the current version) to the Shipping Bin outside the Mines.

Home & Farm Upgrades

Separate from the town-repair story quests are your home (farmhouse) upgrades, purchased from Ryis at the Carpenter's Shop using Tesserae and materials. Each tier expands your interior space and adds features:

  • Kitchen upgrade — unlocks cooking, making stamina meals possible (a top early priority; see our stamina guide).
  • Home Upgrade 3 — adds more interior rooms and space.
  • Home Upgrade 4 — adds a second story to your farmhouse. Requires Home Upgrade 3, completion of the Stone Refinery, and Town Rank 65.

Backpack (inventory) upgrades are bought separately from the General Store — grab the first one early to ease the tight starting inventory.

Frequently Asked Questions

Town upgrades are sequential Story Quests, also called Town Repair quests. You complete them in order to repair buildings and unlock new areas and features. Each asks for materials placed in a donation box or shipping bin, and later upgrades require a minimum Town Renown level to unlock.
After the intro, the earliest town progression comes from Unlocking the Museum and Repairing the Eastern Road Bridge, followed by Reopening the Mines at Town Rank 10. These early quests teach the core systems and open up the map.
Home Upgrade 4, which adds a second story to your farmhouse, is bought from Ryis' Carpenter's Shop. You must have already built Home Upgrade 3, completed the Stone Refinery town repair, and reached Town Rank 65. Then speak to Adeline and provide the required materials.
As of the 2026 Early Access build, the latest town upgrades include the Stone Refinery (Renown 55), the Saturday Market upgrade (Renown 65) and the Carpenter's Shop upgrade (Renown 70). More town repairs are added with each major update, so the final upgrade will arrive with a future release.
Farmhouse (home) upgrades are purchased from Ryis at the Carpenter's Shop using Tesserae and materials. Each tier unlocks more interior space and features — the kitchen upgrade enables cooking, and later tiers add rooms and a second story. They're separate from the town repair story quests.
