Fall is the third and most profitable outdoor season in Fields of Mistria. With four multi-harvest crops available — two of which can be milled for extra value — a well-planted Fall field generates more income per day than any other season. It's also the last chance to build your outdoor farming income before Winter arrives and crop options narrow significantly. This guide ranks every fall crop by profitability, breaks down the milling advantage on Wheat and Rice, and gives you a clear day-by-day planting plan. For a full overview of all seasons, see our Farming Guide.
All Fall Crops at a Glance
Fall lasts 28 days. It has the largest crop roster of any outdoor season, with seven plantable crops plus flowers. Seeds are purchased from Caldarus' General Store — Onion and some others require the General Store upgrade.
| Crop | Seed Cost | Sell Price | Milled Value | Grow Time | Regrow | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wheat | 300T | 150T | 175T (Flour) | 9 days | Every 3 days | Multi-harvest Windmill req. |
| Rice | 300T | 150T | 175T (Rice) | 9 days | Every 3 days | Multi-harvest Windmill req. |
| Onion | 300T | 135T | — | 5 days | Every 3 days | Multi-harvest Store upgrade req. |
| Cranberry | 300T | 125T | — | 5 days | Every 3 days | Multi-harvest |
| Pumpkin | 70T | 180T | — | 9 days | — | Single-harvest |
| Broccoli | 40T | 75T | — | 6 days | — | Single-harvest |
| Sweet Potato | 25T | 40T | — | 4 days | — | Single-harvest |
Note: Wheat and Rice are the only fall crops that interact with the Windmill. Milling Wheat produces Flour (175T); milling Rice Stalk produces Rice (175T). Both are also key ingredients in a wide range of recipes.
Fall Crops Ranked
Wheat — S-Tier (Best with Windmill)
Wheat is the highest-value fall crop when you have the Windmill running, and one of the best crops in the entire game. A 300T seed matures in 9 days and then re-harvests every 3 days — each stalk sells for 150T raw, or 175T as Flour once milled. Milled Wheat generates roughly 34 Tesserae per day per plant across the regrow cycles, edging out Onion's ~30T per day. Planted on Day 1, you can expect around 6 full harvests before the season ends. Flour is also a central cooking ingredient that appears across dozens of recipes and is frequently requested on the Request Board — so milling your Wheat harvest pays off in multiple ways beyond the raw sell price.
Rice — S-Tier (Tied with Wheat)
Rice Stalk is statistically identical to Wheat — same seed cost, same grow and regrow schedule, same raw and milled sell price. The only difference is the end product: milled Rice Stalk produces Rice instead of Flour. Rice appears in recipes like Roasted Rice Tea and other dishes that require Flour substitutes. If you have the Windmill, growing both Wheat and Rice gives you a full pantry of milled ingredients without dedicating every bed to one crop. Without the Windmill, both sit behind Onion in raw-sell profitability.
Onion — A-Tier (Best Without Milling)
Onion is the strongest multi-harvest crop available in Fall that doesn't require the Windmill. At 135T per harvest with a 5-day first grow and 3-day regrow, it earns roughly 30 Tesserae per day per plant and reaches up to 8 harvests from a Day 1 planting. That's 1,080T return on a 300T seed — a 260% profit. Onion unlocks after the General Store upgrade, so if you haven't hit that milestone yet, Cranberry is your Day 1 alternative. Once unlocked, Onion should be your primary fall multi-harvest crop if you aren't milling.
Cranberry — A-Tier (Best Day 1 Option)
Cranberry is the reliable fall anchor available from Day 1 of the season with no unlock needed. At 125T per raw harvest it sits 10T behind Onion, but shipping your first Cranberry immediately unlocks the Cranberry Juice recipe — cook one Cranberry and it becomes worth 135T, matching Onion exactly. If you have kitchen access and time to cook each harvest batch, Cranberry and Onion are neck-and-neck. Without cooking, Onion wins. Either way, plant Cranberry on Day 1 to lock in your 8-harvest window while deciding how much cooking you want to do.
Cranberry fills your main beds for the first half of Fall; Pumpkin takes over for the second half when multi-harvest seeds won't break even.
Pumpkin — B-Tier (Best Single-Harvest)
Pumpkin mirrors the role of Watermelon in Summer and Cabbage in Spring: an affordable, slow-growing single-harvest crop that excels as a second-half filler. At 70T per seed and 180T sell price after 9 days, each Pumpkin nets 110T profit with no unlock required and no milling step. It's the correct choice for any bed left empty after Day 14, when multi-harvest seeds can no longer earn back their 300T cost. Pumpkins planted on Day 15 finish by Day 24 — a comfortable window. They also contribute to the museum's Fall set and show up on the Request Board regularly.
Broccoli — C-Tier (Budget Filler)
Broccoli earns 35T profit per plant in 6 days — better than Sweet Potato but well below Pumpkin. Its main use is as a cheap gap-filler when your Tesserae reserves are low at the start of Fall and you can't yet afford a large Cranberry or Onion planting. Run one or two Broccoli cycles to build capital, then switch to multi-harvest crops or Pumpkin as soon as you can. Broccoli also appears in a handful of recipes and museum donations, so keep a few on hand.
Sweet Potato — D-Tier (Best Starter)
Sweet Potato is Fall's cheapest and fastest crop — the same bridge role that Turnip fills in Spring and Cucumber in Summer. Seeds cost 25T and mature in just 4 days, selling for 40T each. Plant them on Day 1 if you're short on cash, harvest on Day 5, and use the proceeds to buy your first batch of Cranberry or Onion seeds. By Year 2 and beyond, most players skip Sweet Potato entirely and go straight into multi-harvest crops from Day 1.
Day-by-Day Planting Strategy
Fall's 28-day clock works the same as every other season. The key wrinkle is that Wheat and Rice have a 9-day first grow instead of the usual 5 — so they need to be planted even earlier than Onion and Cranberry to maximise cycle count.
?? Fall Planting Calendar (Days 1–28)
Recommended Day-by-Day Plan
- Day 1: Plant your main beds with Cranberry (always available) and Onion (if unlocked). Simultaneously start Wheat and Rice in dedicated beds — their 9-day first grow means every day counts. If cash is tight, fill a few beds with Sweet Potato as a quick Day 5 payout.
- Days 1–5: Harvest Sweet Potatoes on Day 5 and reinvest immediately into more Cranberry or Onion seeds to fill any remaining empty beds.
- Day 6 onward: First Cranberry and Onion harvests arrive. Collect every three days and keep watering daily — a missed watering day resets the regrow timer.
- Day 10 onward: First Wheat and Rice harvests arrive. Mill the stalks as you go if you have the Windmill; otherwise sell raw at 150T each.
- Day 14 (hard stop on multi-harvest): This is the last day to plant Cranberry, Onion, Wheat, or Rice seeds profitably. After today, any new seeds planted won't recoup 300T before the season ends. Switch all new planting to Pumpkin.
- Days 15–18: Plant Pumpkins in every free bed. Planted by Day 18, they finish before Day 28.
- Day 19+: No new planting. Harvest remaining multi-harvest crops on schedule and prepare for Winter. Start planning your Greenhouse if you haven't already.
Fall Farming Tips
The Mill Changes Everything for Wheat and Rice
Without the Windmill, Wheat and Rice are already solid at 150T per harvest — better than Cranberry's 125T per pick. With the Windmill, milling each harvest into Flour or Rice raises the value to 175T, pulling them clearly ahead of every other fall crop including Onion. If your Windmill isn't built yet, Fall is the season where you'll feel its absence most acutely. Flour and Rice are also essential cooking ingredients, so the milled supply feeds your kitchen pipeline as well as your wallet. See the Carpenter Guide for what materials you need to build it.
Cook Your Cranberry Harvest for Free Extra Profit
The moment you ship your first Cranberry, the Cranberry Juice recipe unlocks automatically. Each Cranberry becomes worth 135T cooked vs 125T raw — a 10T gain per unit with a one-ingredient recipe. If you're running a large Cranberry bed and have kitchen time to spare, cooking the entire harvest before shipping adds significant income over a full season. It's the same principle as Summer's Grilled Corn: a trivial cooking step that closes the gap with a higher-value crop. See the Cooking Guide for all fall recipes.
Prioritise Fertiliser on Cranberry and Onion
Quality fertiliser multiplies in value on multi-harvest crops because each quality tier upgrade applies to every regrow cycle. Apply your best fertiliser to Cranberry and Onion beds first — they'll harvest 6–8 times each, turning one fertiliser application into 6–8 quality boosts. Wheat and Rice also benefit but have fewer harvests due to the longer first-grow window. See the Farming Guide for fertiliser tier details.
Use Fall Income to Fund the Greenhouse
The Greenhouse is one of the most important long-term farm investments in Fields of Mistria — it lets you grow any crop year-round regardless of season. That means your Spring Strawberries, Summer Blueberries, and Fall Cranberries can keep producing through Winter and every season after. Fall is the ideal time to hit the Tesserae target needed to build it. See the Greenhouse Guide for materials, build cost, and what to grow inside it.
Apple and Orange Trees Fruit in Fall
If you planted Apple or Orange tree saplings earlier in the year, Fall is their fruiting season. Both produce multiple harvests per season from established trees without any replanting. Tree fruit also shows up frequently in cooking recipes and NPC gift preferences, so a small orchard running alongside your crop beds is a low-maintenance Tesserae boost. See the Farming Guide for fruit tree details.
Fall Has Two Festivals — Plan Around Them
Fall includes two in-game festivals. Festival days don't allow farming activity, so factor any festival dates into your planting schedule to avoid losing a watering day that resets your regrow timer. Check the All Festivals Guide for exact dates and what to prepare.
