Spring is the first season in Fields of Mistria and your biggest window to build cash before the game opens up. Farming is the fastest way to stack Tesserae early — but only if you plant the right things. Pick wrong and you'll limp through Summer struggling to afford tool upgrades. Pick right and you'll have seed money for your greenhouse before Year 1 is even over. This guide ranks every spring crop by profitability, tells you exactly when to plant each one, and gives you a day-by-day strategy. New to the game? Check our Beginner's Guide first.
All Spring Crops at a Glance
Fields of Mistria's spring season lasts 28 days. Five crops grow in Spring — here's how they compare:
| Crop | Seed Cost | Sell Price | Grow Time | Regrow | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strawberry | 300T | 125T | 5 days | Every 3 days | Multi-harvest |
| Peas | 300T | 135T | 5 days | Every 3 days | Multi-harvest Unlock req. |
| Cabbage | 70T | 180T | 9 days | — | Single-harvest |
| Potato | 50T | 80T | 6 days | — | Single-harvest |
| Turnip | 25T | 40T | 4 days | — | Single-harvest |
All seeds are purchased from Caldarus' General Store in Mistria Town. The store opens daily, and Peas only become available after you've made progress repairing the General Store as part of the town restoration questline.
Spring Crops Ranked
Strawberry — S-Tier (Best Overall)
Strawberry is the standout spring crop and the fastest route to real Tesserae. Plant it on Day 1, wait five days for the first harvest, then collect fresh strawberries every three days after that. A single seed planted on Day 1 yields up to 8 harvests over the full season — each worth 125T. That's 1,000T of income from a 300T investment, a 233% return before quality bonuses even factor in.
The math is compelling, but the timing is critical. The 300T seed cost requires a decent cash cushion — something most players won't have on the literal first day. Start with a mix of Turnips to generate starting capital, then switch to Strawberries as soon as you can afford a batch.
Strawberries are also excellent cooking ingredients and count toward the Spring Crop museum set. See the Cooking Guide for recipes that turn strawberries into even higher-value processed goods.
Peas — A-Tier (Best Once Unlocked)
Peas are objectively the best spring multi-harvest crop once they're available — identical grow and regrow timing to Strawberry but sell for 10T more per harvest. At 135T each, 8 harvests from a Day-1 planting nets 1,080T from a 300T investment. As soon as the General Store repair quest unlocks Pea seeds, swap them in for any new Strawberry beds.
Cabbage — A-Tier (Best Single-Harvest)
Cabbage is the most efficient single-harvest spring crop: a 70T seed produces a crop worth 180T in 9 days, giving a net profit of 110T per plant. It can only be harvested once, but the seed is cheap enough that you can afford bulk plantings from Day 1. For the second half of Spring — when Strawberry seeds planted now won't break even — fill your beds with Cabbages instead. A bed of 20 Cabbages planted on Day 15 comfortably finishes before Day 28.
Potato — B-Tier (Reliable Mid-Range)
Potato sits between Turnip and Cabbage in both cost and reward. A 50T seed grows in 6 days and sells for 80T — a 30T profit per plant. It's a solid choice early in Year 1 when you can't afford Cabbage in bulk and need something more profitable than Turnips. Potatoes are also a useful cooking ingredient and contribute to the museum set.
Turnip — C-Tier (Best Starter Crop)
Turnip is the lowest-profit spring crop on paper, but it's the most important one for a brand-new file. At just 25T per seed with a 4-day turnaround, Turnips are the fastest way to build your opening cash pool. Plant as many as you can on the first day or two, sell the harvest around Day 5, then use that money to buy your first batch of Strawberry seeds. Think of Turnips as a seed fund, not a long-term strategy.
A good spring layout mixes Strawberries in the main beds with a Cabbage block for the second half of the season.
Day-by-Day Planting Strategy
The 28-day spring season is short once you factor in grow times. Here is the ideal planting plan for maximising income across the full season:
?? Spring Planting Calendar (Days 1–28)
Recommended Day-by-Day Plan
- Days 1–3: Plant your entire field with Turnips. They grow in just 4 days and give you the starting capital to buy Strawberry seeds without going broke.
- Day 5: Harvest your first Turnip batch. Reinvest the profit immediately into Strawberry seeds (300T each). Keep replanting Turnips in any remaining space.
- Day 6 onward: Your Strawberries begin producing. Harvest every third day and water daily. Replace any Turnip plots with more Strawberry beds as your Tesserae grows.
- Day 14 (hard stop): This is the last day to plant Strawberry seeds profitably. After today, shift all new planting to Cabbage (70T seed, 9-day grow, 180T sell).
- Days 15–18: Plant Cabbages in all free beds. Planted on Day 15, they'll be ready by Day 24 — well before the season ends.
- Day 19+: Don't plant anything with a grow time over 9 days — it won't finish before Day 28 and you'll lose the crop.
Strawberries planted on Day 1 can be harvested up to 8 times before Spring ends — the most harvests of any spring crop.
Spring Farming Tips
Use Quality Fertiliser on Your Multi-Harvest Crops
Fertiliser raises crop quality, and higher-quality crops sell for significantly more Tesserae. Because Strawberries and Peas are harvested multiple times, fertilising them gives you a quality uplift on every single pick. Buy the best available fertiliser from Caldarus the moment it appears in stock and apply it to your multi-harvest beds first — the return-on-investment is much higher than using it on single-harvest Cabbages. See the Farming Guide for full details on fertiliser tiers and quality bonuses.
Upgrade Your Watering Can Early
Even the Copper Watering Can waters a 3×3 area in a single action, dramatically cutting your daily stamina cost. If you're farming a large plot of Strawberries, this upgrade can halve the time and energy spent on watering. For the upgrade priority order and materials needed, check the Tool Upgrade Guide.
Rainy Days Are Free Stamina
When it rains, your crops water themselves. Any day marked rainy in the in-game almanac is a free pass to skip watering entirely and spend that saved stamina on mining, fishing, or foraging. Don't waste rainy days — head straight to the mines or visit the Request Board for quick Tesserae jobs. Read more in the Stamina Guide.
Flowers Are Worth Growing Too
Spring also grows two flowers: Tulip and Daffodil. Both count toward the museum's Spring Flora set and are appreciated as gifts by several villagers. They don't compete with your crop beds for profit, but dedicating a small corner of your farm to flowers pays dividends in relationship points and museum completion. See the Museum Guide for what you need to donate.
Cooking Turns Crops Into Even More Money
Strawberries and potatoes are ingredients in several stamina-restoring dishes. Once you've unlocked the kitchen, consider converting a portion of each harvest into cooked goods — especially if you're running stamina issues on long mine days. The Cooking Guide lists every recipe and which crops are most useful.
Best Farm Layout for Spring
For an optimal spring layout that balances watering efficiency with crop placement, check out our dedicated Best Farm Layout Guide. The general rule: put multi-harvest crops in the centre of your watering route so you pass by them first each day, and place single-harvest crops at the edges where it's fine to water them last.
The Seed Maker (Bountiful Perk)
Fields of Mistria doesn't have a standalone seed-making machine. Instead, the Bountiful perk — unlocked at Farming Level 15 — gives you a chance to get a seed whenever you water a crop. This is the only way to get seeds without buying them from Caldarus. Until then, budget for seed purchases each season. See the Skills Guide for the full Farming skill tree.
