Winter is the final season in Fields of Mistria and the most limited for outdoor farming — only four crops are available to plant, and none match the profitability of Fall's Wheat, Rice, or Onion. That doesn't mean you should leave your fields empty. Snow Peas are a solid multi-harvest earner, Daikon Radish mirrors the role of Pumpkin and Watermelon in earlier seasons, and the Greenhouse lets you grow higher-value crops from other seasons regardless of the snow outside. This guide covers every winter crop, ranks them by profit, and explains the Water Chestnut cooking trick that makes Snow Peas significantly more valuable. Already farming year-round? Check our Greenhouse Guide for what to grow inside it.
All Winter Crops at a Glance
Winter lasts 28 days. Only four crops can be planted outdoors this season — the smallest roster of any season. All seeds are purchased from Caldarus' General Store, with no unlock requirements for any winter crop.
| Crop | Seed Cost | Sell Price | Cooked Value | Grow Time | Regrow | Type |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Snow Peas | 300T | 125T | 140T (Sautéed Snow Peas) | 5 days | Every 3 days | Multi-harvest |
| Daikon Radish | 70T | 180T | 170T (Simmered Daikon — worse) | 9 days | — | Single-harvest |
| Cauliflower | 40T | 75T | 80T (Roasted Cauliflower) | 6 days | — | Single-harvest |
| Beet | 25T | 40T | — | 4 days | — | Single-harvest |
| Pomegranate ?? | 400T (sapling) | varies | — | 14 days | Every 3 days | Fruit tree |
Note: Daikon Radish sells for more raw (180T) than cooked (Simmered Daikon ~170T) — one of the few crops in the game where cooking actually reduces value. Always sell Daikon Radish raw.
Winter Crops Ranked
Snow Peas — S-Tier (Best Overall)
Snow Peas are Winter's equivalent of Spring's Strawberry and Summer's Blueberry — the single multi-harvest crop available, and the clear best choice for your main beds. A 300T seed matures in 5 days and re-harvests every 3 days for up to 8 picks per seed when planted on Day 1, generating 1,000T raw per seed on a 300T investment. They're available from Day 1 of Winter with no unlock requirement, and they level up your Farming skill with every harvest — useful preparation for the next Spring's planting.
The real trick with Snow Peas is cooking. Shipping your first Snow Pea unlocks Sautéed Snow Peas, a recipe that combines one Snow Pea with one Water Chestnut (a forageable found in Spring, Summer, and Fall). The dish sells for 140T, raising value by 15T per harvest over raw Snow Peas. Start stockpiling Water Chestnuts from Fall specifically for Winter cooking.
Daikon Radish — A-Tier (Best Single-Harvest)
Daikon Radish is Winter's Pumpkin — a cheap single-harvest crop with a long grow time and a high sell price. At 70T per seed and 180T sell price in 9 days, each Daikon earns a clean 110T profit with zero unlock requirements and no cooking needed. Its 9-day grow time means you can plant up to three rotations in a season if you're efficient, though realistically two full cycles plus a partial third is the norm. Use Daikon Radish to fill beds during the second half of Winter after the Day 14 Snow Pea cutoff, and as a Day 1 filler crop alongside Snow Peas in any bed you haven't filled with multi-harvest seeds.
Important: don't cook Daikon Radish. Simmered Daikon requires Soy Sauce (a rare ingredient) and actually sells for less than the raw Daikon — one of the only crop cooking results in the game where you lose money in the process. Always sell Daikon raw at 180T.
Cauliflower — B-Tier (Cook for Small Bonus)
Cauliflower earns a modest 35T profit per plant in 6 days. It's most useful as a budget gap-filler when your Snow Pea seed budget is spent and you have empty beds to fill. Shipping your first Cauliflower unlocks the Roasted Cauliflower recipe, which sells for 80T — only 5T more than raw. The cooking bonus is minimal but worth doing if you have kitchen time and want every last Tesserae from the harvest. Cauliflower is also required for the Winter Crop museum set, so keep at least one to donate before selling the rest.
Beet — C-Tier (Starter Bridge Crop)
Beet is Winter's Turnip — the cheapest, fastest crop available, worth growing only if you arrive in Winter short on Tesserae and can't yet afford Snow Pea seeds. At 25T per seed and a 4-day turnaround, Beet generates a quick cash loop to fund your first Snow Pea batch. By Year 2, most players skip Beet entirely and go straight to Snow Peas from Day 1. Donate one to the Winter Crop museum set before selling the rest.
Pomegranate — Special (Long-Term Tree)
Pomegranate is a fruit tree that bears fruit in Winter. Unlike planted crops, a Pomegranate tree doesn't need to be replanted each year — once established it keeps producing every Winter indefinitely. The 400T sapling takes around 14 days to mature, so planting one in Winter only leaves a narrow harvesting window. The correct approach is to plant Pomegranate saplings in Fall so they're fully grown and ready to fruit as soon as Winter begins. Pomegranate fruit appears in recipes, makes a sought-after gift for several villagers, and counts toward the Winter Crop museum donation set. It's not a significant Tesserae earner compared to Snow Peas, but as a perennial investment it pays off over multiple years.
Snow Peas are the cornerstone of a productive Winter farm — plant every available bed on Day 1 and cook them with stored Water Chestnuts for 140T per dish.
Day-by-Day Planting Strategy
Winter's small crop roster makes the planting decision simple: fill every bed with Snow Peas on Day 1, then switch to Daikon Radish after Day 14. The challenge is making the most of Winter's reduced income compared to Fall.
?? Winter Planting Calendar (Days 1–28)
Recommended Day-by-Day Plan
- Day 1: Plant every available bed with Snow Peas. If you're low on Tesserae and can't afford a full planting, fill the remaining beds with Beet as a fast cash bridge. Plant any pre-grown Pomegranate saplings now if you carried them over from Fall.
- Days 1–5: If you planted Beet, harvest on Day 5 and immediately reinvest into more Snow Pea seeds. Water Snow Peas every day — a missed watering day resets the regrow timer.
- Day 6 onward: First Snow Pea harvests arrive. If you have Water Chestnuts stored, cook each batch into Sautéed Snow Peas before shipping for 140T per dish instead of 125T raw.
- Day 14 (hard stop on Snow Peas): Don't plant any new Snow Pea seeds after today. Seeds planted after Day 14 won't generate enough harvests to recoup their 300T cost. Switch all new planting to Daikon Radish.
- Days 15–18: Plant Daikon Radish in every free bed. Planted on Day 15, Daikon is ready by Day 24 — a clean single harvest before the season ends. Don't plant Daikon after Day 18 or it won't finish.
- Day 19+: No new planting. Collect Snow Pea harvests on their 3-day schedule, harvest Daikon on Day 24, and begin planning your Spring Day 1 seed purchases.
Winter Farming Tips
Stock Up on Water Chestnuts Before Winter Arrives
This is the single most impactful Winter farming tip. Water Chestnuts are forageable throughout Spring, Summer, and Fall — look for them near water and in foraging zones. They have very few uses outside of Winter cooking, so most players let them pile up or skip them entirely. Instead, collect as many as you can during Fall and store them in a chest. When Winter begins, combine them with your Snow Pea harvests to make Sautéed Snow Peas at 140T each — 15T more per unit than selling raw, multiplied across 8 harvests per seed. See the Forageables Guide for where to find Water Chestnuts each season.
Don't Cook Daikon Radish — Sell It Raw
Simmered Daikon requires Soy Sauce and sells for less than a raw Daikon Radish. This is one of the only crops in the game where the cooked version is worth less than raw. Always sell Daikon Radish directly without cooking it. If you receive Soy Sauce from Requests or as a gift, save it for other recipes entirely.
Roasted Cauliflower Is Worth the Kitchen Time
Cauliflower's cooking upgrade to Roasted Cauliflower is small — just 5T extra per unit — but it's a one-ingredient recipe and takes seconds to batch-cook. If you're growing Cauliflower as a gap filler, cook the entire harvest before shipping. Every Tesserae counts when Winter's overall income is lower than other seasons.
Plant Pomegranate Saplings in Fall, Not Winter
Pomegranate trees need about 14 days to mature, which leaves almost no harvesting time if planted in Winter. The correct move is to buy Pomegranate saplings from Caldarus in Fall and plant them then — they'll arrive Winter-ready and start fruiting from Day 1 of the season. In Year 1 the narrow Fall window may mean you miss this, but from Year 2 onward a pre-planted Pomegranate orchard gives you free passive Winter income alongside your Snow Peas.
Winter Is Levelling Season for Other Skills
With fewer crop beds to water each morning, Winter gives you more daily stamina to spend on mining, fishing, foraging, and social activities. Use that freed-up stamina to push deeper into the mines for rare ore, complete museum donations from your Fall forage stockpile, and max out heart levels with villagers whose birthdays fall in Winter. See the Mining Guide for what awaits on deeper floors, and the All Characters Guide for Winter birthday dates.
Use Growth Magic on Your Snow Peas
If you've progressed far enough in the mines to unlock the Growth magic spell, Snow Peas are the ideal target. Growth instantly matures a 3×3 area of crops — and since Snow Peas keep regrowing, using the spell on a mature patch triggers an immediate harvest without waiting for the regrow timer. This is a significant stamina-to-Tesserae conversion if you have enough Essence to spare. See the Magic Guide for how to unlock and use Growth.
