Building relationships in Fields of Mistria is one of the most rewarding parts of the game — and gifting is the engine that drives it. Every character has unique preferences, and knowing what to give means faster heart gains, earlier heart events, and eventually romance with any of the game's 10 romanceable candidates. This guide covers the complete gift list for every character, all birthday dates, universal gifts that work on anyone, and the systems behind the gift mechanic. How the Gift System Works
You can give one gift per day to any character by interacting with them and selecting an item from your inventory. The game tracks who you've gifted that day with a small icon next to their name in the Villagers menu. Gifts are categorised into five tiers:
?? Loved
Largest heart boost. Each character has exactly 10 loved gifts. Always prioritise these, especially on birthdays.
? Liked
Good heart boost. Each character has 20 liked gifts. Easy to farm daily when loved gifts are scarce.
? Disliked / Hated / Banned
Reduces friendship. Junk (Acorns, Sap, Cattail Fluff) and Weird Gifts (animal feed, etc.) are disliked by nearly everyone. Some characters have item-specific bans.
Once you successfully give a character a liked or loved gift, it gets logged in their profile in the Villagers menu — making it easy to build up your personal gift reference over time.
How to Discover Gift Preferences
The fastest method is to complete the Gossip quest from the town Request Board. Talk to three characters, report back to Elsie, and she'll start offering daily gift hints — one character per day, chosen from a short list you pick from. This systematically fills in every character's liked and loved gift list over time. Characters also drop hints about their preferences in regular dialogue, but these don't automatically log in your journal — you'll need to gift the item to unlock it officially.
Universal Gifts
Scent of Spring is the only confirmed universally loved gift in Fields of Mistria — purchase it from the Spring Festival stall each year and stock up. For a reliable universal liked gift available year-round, unlock the Likable Cooking skill from Caldarus. Cooked dishes with the Likable Infusion are treated as liked gifts by any NPC regardless of their individual preferences — ideal for days when you're unsure what to give or when you've already gifted their loved items recently.

Birthday gifts earn extra hearts — always mark these dates on your calendar and prepare a loved gift in advance. Romanceable characters are marked with ?.

Non-Romanceable Characters — Easy Gifts
Every non-romanceable villager can still be befriended, and raising their friendship level unlocks unique dialogue, small rewards, and contributes to your overall social standing in Mistria. Most share the same universal dislikes (Junk, Weird Gifts) and respond well to cooked food, flowers, and items tied to their personality.

Gift Giving Tips
Unlock the Gossip Quest First
The single best thing you can do early in the game for relationships is complete the Gossip quest from the Request Board. Talk to three characters about each other, report to Elsie, and she'll give you one gift hint per day — a liked or loved item for a character of your choice. Over a season this fills in your gift journal rapidly without expensive experimentation.
Stock Up on Scent of Spring Every Year
Scent of Spring is sold at the Spring Festival and is the only confirmed universally loved gift. Buy as many as you can afford each year — they're useful for any character on any day, but especially valuable on birthdays when you haven't yet discovered a character's specific loved gifts.
Invest in the Likable Cooking Skill
The Likable Cooking perk from Caldarus causes some cooked meals to randomly receive the Likable Infusion, making them universally liked gifts. This is the closest thing to an unlimited supply of reliable liked gifts — any character, any day. It pairs especially well with bulk cooking sessions. Celine Is the Easiest Character to Max
Celine loves flowers — and flowers can be foraged for free every single day of the year. Even common flowers like Tulip and Daisy are liked gifts, and rarer blooms like Crystal Rose and Middlemist are loved. You never need to spend a single Tesserae to maintain a high relationship with her. This makes her an ideal early romance target if you want to unlock heart events quickly.
Hayden's Loved Gifts Require Ranching Investment
Most of Hayden's loved gifts are golden-quality animal products — Golden Egg, Golden Butter, Golden Milk, and so on. These require high-friendship animals and the right equipment to produce. Watch Out for Character-Specific Banned Gifts
A few characters have specific banned items that cannot be given at all, on top of the universal Junk and Weird Gifts categories. The in-game Villagers menu shows these bans on each character's profile once you discover them. If a gift option is greyed out, it's banned for that character — don't try to force it.
